On June 18 more than 100 residents of Santa Marta commemorated the 37th anniversary of the campesina massacre, that took place on June 19, 1980 in Los Planes, El Picacho, and La Pinte. The community walked from Santa Marta’s Central Plaza to Los Planes, under the falling rain, remembering the lives of the martyrs with a ceremony and mass.

With more than 50 participants, ADES Santa Marta, together with leaders from El Ocotillo culminated the environmental training process, facilitating a series of video forums about mining, water, non-violent resistance, and defense of the territory.

Through the Organic Agriculture: An Investment for a Sustainable Futureproject, the Asociación de Desarrollo Económico y Social Santa Marta (ADES) seeks to strengthen the organizational structures in Cabañas’ communities.

 

More than 70 people from the municipalities of San Isidro and Victoria, Cabañas, are studying the topic of human rights in the Human Rights School,organized by the Asociación de Desarrollo Económico Social Santa Marta (ADES).
