Communities and the municipality of Mataquescuintla in the Jalapa department of Guatemala, presented an award to Vidalina Morales for ADES’s struggle against metallic mining exploration in Cabañas.

The presentation occurred during the commemoration and celebration of the fifth anniversary of the municipal elections that Mataquescuintla organized in 2012, where the majority of the population rejeced the San Rafeal Las Flores mine, which was operating only a few kilometers from the communities.

Vidalina discussed all of the work the communities and organizations did in opposition to the El Dorado mining project in El Salvador, and the importance of approving a law that prohibits metallic mining in all its forms.
