The Asociación de Desarrollo Económico y Social Santa Marta (ADES), along with other organizations that operate in Guacotecti, Cabañas are concerned about the high rates of teenage pregnancy in the district.
According to the statistics from the Guacotecti Community Family Health Clinic, the city ranks second with teenage pregnancies in the department and is only surpassed by Ciudad Dolores.
Facing this situation, ADES, Guacotecti´s Community Family Health Clinic, the National Civil Police, and other institutions from the municipality, together with community leaders have designed a plan to educate young people about the consequences of pregnancy at an early age.
Tulio Torres, part of ADES’ technical team, said that the institution has committed to including the subject in the “Youth Leadership School,” which is being implemented in Cabañas and Cuscatlán.
In the same way, other institutions have based their annual activities on the plan.
According to the representatives from Guacotecti´s Community Family Health Clinic, the plan to reduce teenage pregnancy in Guacotecti will be carried out over the period of a year. They are looking to reduce the rate of young pregnancies, which remains at 25%.
